Great Minds Think Alike is one of my favorite student ministry games. It requires few materials, is easy to prep and often gets people laughing and incredulously exclaiming “Are you kidding me?!” to their team by the first round!
This game is also highly adaptable. With a few tweaks you can change it from a small group game to one you can play on stage – or even have everyone in the audience play in teams!
So if you’re planning a girls night or just have another event on the agenda – here is an easy way to get people talking and laughing!
- Break students into equal teams of 2 (or more if you want to make it a stage or audience game). Give everyone a sheet of paper and a pen.
- Tell the students you are going to give them 5 categories. When you announce a category, everyone has to write down two words/phrases that they associate with the category without talking (ex. school – teacher & homework).
- When you say reveal, each team gets a point for every repeated word. For the highly competitive person like me (haha!), you need to establish from the beginning whether minor variations matter. For example – does a team get a point if one person puts Santa and another puts Santa Claus?
- The team with the most points wins.
